Are you experiencing problems with your Ideal Boiler, and are witnessing the L2 fault code? In this article, you will learn everything you need to know about the fault code and how to fix it.

Ideal Boiler problems

It is common with any boiler that you may experience some problems. While Ideal Boiler is a safe and reputable boiler, any appliance is susceptible to the occasional error.

Fortunately, you will be presented with a fault code that will indicate to you, or the specialist engineer, what the problem is so a quick resolution can be found. When a fault code appears, likely, your boiler will not work until the problem has been fixed, and therefore, initiate a lockout. It does this to prevent any further damage to your boiler.

Once the fault has been resolved, you will be able to reset your boiler and get back to your day.

Ideal Boiler fault codes

There is a range of fault codes that may appear on your Ideal Boiler. The code will depend on the type of problem your boiler has incurred. Below are some of the possible fault code reasons you may encounter:

  • Reduction in water pressure
  • Loss of flame
  • Fan failure
  • Fault with the flow thermistor
  • Fault with return thermistor
  • Fault with the outside sensor
  • Low mains voltage
  • PCB unconfigured
  • No water flow/flow temperature overheating
  • Ignition lockout
  • False flame lockout

How to reset L2 fault on Ideal Boiler

The L2 fault code on an Ideal Boiler is typically caused by a flame sensor failure. The fault code is triggered when the gas supply is shut off, because the Printed Circuit Board (PCB), which controls your boiler, does not receive the necessary signal that the flame is present.

Your Gas Safety Engineer will be fully equipped to make the necessary checks on your boiler, for example, test to see if the flame sensor is working. If there is a problem with the sensor, then it will be a quick and simple fix of replacing the old sensor with a new one.

The flame issue you are experiencing is most likely to do with the ignition, however, several different things could have caused the problem. Your engineer will do a variety of additional checks to ensure everything is covered before they leave. Some of the possible causes include:

  • A disabled gas valve, which has hindered the flow of gas into your boiler
  • Low gas pressure, which could be from the gas pressure from your supplier, or the gas pipes fitted with your boiler
  • Condensate pipes freezing over which stops the gases from escaping and becomes dangerous
  • Blockage at your gas metre

It is unnecessary to replace your entire boiler if you are experiencing the L2 fault code. It could just be that pipes or sensors need replacing or your pipes need thawing or unblocking.

You should always seek the help of a professional Gas Safety Engineer with any problems you are experiencing with your boiler. The codes in this article are for information purposes only.
